Sometimes I am a little short on cash. If I only have $5 to spend, what games do I get? Well today we are looking at 5 of the best games under $5.
Even though some of these games are oldies they are still goodies. An old game doesn’t mean a bad game. Heck I still play the first Starcraft which was released in 1998. (You can get the original Starcraft free from Blizzard by the way)
Don’t forget there are also free to play options that are amazing, as well as the free paid games you can get every month. We post a list at the beginning in the middle of every month of all the free paid games available.
Here’s our list of games under $5
Games Under $5 Available This Weekend
Deus-Ex Human Revolution is a Prequel. The prequel starts 2027, twenty-five years before the very first game, with Adam Jensen, Sarif Industries head of security, currently being critically wounded in a terrorist attack. Jensen is saved by his supervisor David Sarif, who reconstructs his entire body with experimental cybernetic augmentations as he approaches the brink of death. Jansen never requested for an upgrade, though it gives him the capability to find those responsible.
Despite the fact that it looks a bit out of date, the general game is nevertheless pleasurable. The environment is awesome and the tale is fascinating. There are several reading materials and side quests which can provide additional context to the Deus Ex world.
The choice to deal with missions in various ways is astounding. You are able to fire at adversaries from a distance or even try to sneak your way through them. For me personally, I enjoy trying to stealth it instead of fight it out.
Difficulty is chosen, but if you take the stealth path, it won’t matter much.
An iconic game, Deus-Ex Human Revolution is a great game, and at under $5, it’s even better!
Mafia is one of the original gangster games. Set in 1930 you play as Tommy Angelo who is thrust into the world of organized crime. While the definitive edition has modern up to date graphics, it loses some of the charm of the original.
The game has a great story and is always pulling out different mission types so it always feels fresh.
The game provides a sense of realism and makes you really feel immersed in the story.
You will have nothing to complain about with Mafia, and at under $5 you’ll have 20+ hours of amazing gameplay.
If you like your games a little bit spooky, there isn’t a better option than Soma.
Soma is a sci – fi horror video game produced by Frictional Games, the makers of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It is a disturbing tale about identity, awareness and what it really is to be human.
Soma is excellent and provides you with excellent scares. There are not many jump scares. Instead, the sound design and environment substantially give you the creeps. The game really likes having you figure out puzzles while being chased around by monsters. The story is superbly composed and could make the player think about specific elements of the game and even elements of their own life.
Soma is another big win and a game under $5 you definitely don’t want to pass on.
Bioshock was a game that took I owned years before I actually played it. After playing it, I regretted waiting.
Bioshock is a shooter like you’ve never played before. Throughout the game, what you think is happening, is not what’s happening.
I don’t want to give too much away in case you haven’t played it. All I can say is Bioshock is a real mind bender.
If you have a little more to spend you can get the Bioshock collection from Steam which has all the Bioshock games. Then maybe you can solve the debate on which is better, the original Bioshock, or Bioshock infinite. Both often end up on top 10 lists of the best games of all time.
With the Fanatical Slayer Bundle you can choose 3 games for $4.99, 5 for $7.99, or 7 for $9.99. I have not played all of these games, so I will only comment on the few that I am acquainted with.
The games you can choose from are:
A House of Many Doors
Ministry of Broadcast
Train Valley 1+2
Dark Future Blood Red States
A Case of Distrust
Paw Paw Paw
Of these games I highly recommend Going Under. It’s described as a dungeon crawler that takes place in failed tech startups. When I first heard about this game, I thought it sounded ridiculous.
One day I decided to play a game I’ve never played before and decided on Going Under. I was surprised to find that I was having an enormous amount of fun.
Another good game is this bunch is Railway Empire. It is essentially a Railway Sim, but it is a lot more challenging than it sounds.
Horizon Chase is another good one. It was designed to mimic old school arcade racers, and it does an amazing job of it. It’s not complicated, it has graphics from the 80’s, and it’s a hell of a lot of fun.
Those are the games I would highly recommend if you go for the $4.99 option. All three games are a good amount of fun and offer great value for their low price.
Summary of Today's Games Under $5
