Epic’s Holiday Game Giveaway game for today is Control.
Metacritic 85% / Steam Very Positive
Control is definitely one of my favorite games that I played in 2021. I would consider it Remedy’s best game to date.
The game is based around the FBC, or Federal Bureau of Control. The FBC contains and studies paranormal phenomena that violates the laws of reality.
You play as Jesse Faden, the bureau’s new director. You also, are attempting to locate your brother who you were separated from as children.
Control has a story that draws you in and excellent action sequences. The video above is a great example of the gameplay style and action. Once you start, you won’t want to quit until you get to the end of the story.

Holiday Game Specials for Today
The Surge - Steam - $4.99
The Surge is an action RPG Soul-like game set in a Portal-like universe. It has good, appealing graphics, fun game play, and a decent story. The story can get somewhat dark at times (much darker than you’d expect for this type of game).
One thing to note, this game is hard. Very hard. Just pretend that any enemy can kill you in less than 10 seconds.
At only $5, these are the type of dirt cheap holiday game specials we look for. Pick up the Surge now before the special ends.
Greedfall - Gamers Gate - $12.45 w/ coupon GG-DEALS-21
Greed fall is highly under-rated and I am not sure why. Set in colonial times, you explore a recently found remote island. You are not alone. You have to deal with the locals trying to fight off remote settlers as well as other mercenaries, treasure hunters, and other settlers.
With diplomacy, combat, magic, and stealth aspects, Greedfall has a story that will keep you captivated throughout.
Get it while it’s on this wonderful special and get 30-40 hours of gameplay for only $12.45.
Cyberpunk 2077 - Epicgames - $19.99 w/. coupon
I’ve been debating whether or not I should list Cyberpunk in here. Cyberpunk is most known for being released as a half complete buggy mess.
Since release there have been several patches and improvements so the game will run better. It is important to make sure you hit at least a little bit over the minimum system requirements. The game is very CPU and GPU intensive.
While I would never recommend Cyberpunk at full price, $20 is a good price for the game and you will definitely get your money’s worth. The Cyberpunk work is amazing.
Mortal Kombat 11 - Steam - $9.99
I have never been a huge fighting game fan. That being said, when I do go to play a fighting game it’s either Mortal Kombat or Injustice. Both IP’s tend to have a better and more compete story than other fighting games.
Mortal Kombat 11 has a significant improvement in graphics over 10. Eleven utilizes HDR a lot better as well. Unfortunately, the pc port is handled by a different studio than the Xbox and Playstation versions so there is no cross play on the PC Port.
Holiday game deals like this make it worth it to buy the game for the story mode only. Online Matchmaking on PC has very few players, and often you can’t find a match.
If you enjoy fighting games, or the Mortal Kombat story and want to meet the new badie, make sure to get this before the steam holiday game specials end.
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt GOTY - Steam - $9.99
The Witcher III is one of the best RPG’s every made. That’s not just my opinion, it shows up on almost every best RPG’s ever list. Even though the game was released in 2015 the graphics still hold up well to this day.
The Witcher III has such an engaging story it’s hard to stop playing it. Learn all about Geralt, Triss, and The Witcher lore.
After you finish The Witcher 3, you can go watch the show on Netflix to get more Witcher lore.
The biggest complaint this game receives is that it is too long. For $10 you get around 55 hours of playtime. It seems short compared to some of the games released recently.
Summary
The holiday game specials will be coming to a close soon. Pretty much all of them end by 1-6-2022 or earlier. Make sure to take advantage of these great holiday game specials while they are still available.
