Right now, you can get all three Tomb Raider games free from Epic Game Store. Yesterday I talked I talked about Doom (on sale for $3.98). Doom was a iconic game influencing game in the 90’s. When I heard there was going to be a reboot I thought, Oh Know, but they pulled it off.
Tomb Raider is another game franchise in that same boat. Tomb Raider Highly iconic and influential in gaming history. They too managed to pull out a great reboot and keep the franchise in good standing.
Right now, Epic Games is giving away all 3 rebooted Tomb Raider game free for the 20th anniversary. If you’ve never played any of the rebooted games, now is your chance.
Here is a quick review of each game, so you have some idea of what you’re getting into.
To be honest, this is the only game is the Trilogy I have actually finished. All of the games are good, but I have a short attention span. A game really has to captivate me for me to finish it, and with Tomb Raider I stayed captivated all the way through.
That’s one reason I was very excited when I heard Epic was giving away all of the rebooted Tomb Raider games free.
The first game of the Tomb Raider reboot dives into Lara Croft’s origin story. During Lara’s first expedition she ends up ship-wrecked on an island surrounded by danger.
Tomb Raider does a great job of developing Lara from an inexperience explorer to the Lara Croft we know today. The acting in this game is amazing.
With a great plot, this game creates emotion, suspense, and an amazing sense of adventure. The upgrade and crafting system is well defined and surprisingly satisfying.
There aren’t very many games I don’t have something negative to say about them, but this is one of them. If you don’t get the other games, definitely pick this one up while Epics giving away all the Tomb Raider games free.
Rise of The Tomb Raider 20 Year Anniversary Edition
Rise of the Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition comes with the base game and season pass.
Rise of the Tomb Raider picks up one year after the first game. In the first game, Lara was thrown into danger against her will. Now she has gained confidence and is running towards it.
Lara is chasing after a discovery her father made called “The Divine Source”. The Divine Source grants immortality, and Lara is obsessed with finding it. She travels to the city of Kitezh where the object is located.
She is not the only one looking for The Divine Source. Little does she know she is not alone. An organization called Trinity is also looking for The Divine Source and follows Laras every move.
With a slight graphic upgrade, gameplay in this sequel is very similar to the original rebooted game discussed above.
Rise of the Tomb Raider feels much bigger than the original game. Even while doing a main quest there are so many things to explore and side objectives you can complete going from point a to point b. This is a plus and a minus. While it adds a lot to the game, it can also feel a little overwhelming at times.
I believe this is the main reason the user reviews have come in just slightly lower than the first game.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is still a great game. Make sure to pick it up while Epic is giving away all the Tomb Raider games free.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition
The third game in the rebooted series falls a little flat compared to the other two. With another graphics upgrade and a bigger, longer game, it fails to impress. It is still a decent game, but not near as good as the first two in the series.
This time Lara travels to the city of Paititi to stop a Mayan apocalypse she had put into motion. She is also still being hunted by Trinity.
I only got a couple hours into this game before it lost my attention. While the acting was superb, the story was far less believable than the previous games. While all three games suffered from the side characters being a little weakly developed, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the worst of the bunch. Its side characters are weak and unbelievable.
The game has beautiful, upgraded graphics. Gameplay is on par with the other two games. Camilla Luddington’s acting is phenomenal as it has been in all the games.
The game has many positives but was too unbelievable to keep my attention. It may be best to get it while Epic is giving away all the Tomb Raider games free. That way you get the conclusion to the trilogy and don’t have to pay for it.
Epic giving away all of the Tomb Raider games free is amazing. If you haven’t played any of the games you should definitely pick them up. I already had all three games, but still claimed them since the Epic versions also include all the DLC’s. Remember to claim them before Jan 6th, 2022 at 10am CT.
